Breast Reduction - Lift

Breast reduction and lift (reduction mastopexy), These are surgical procedures performed to eliminate aesthetic and physical problems caused by large and saggy breasts. Excessively large breasts can cause back, neck and shoulder pain, posture disorder, skin irritations and restriction of movement in daily life. With breast reduction and lift surgery, excess breast tissue and skin are removed, the breast is reshaped and a more upright, aesthetic and harmonious appearance with body contours is obtained.

In patients with insufficient breast volume and breast sagging, breast lift can be performed with silicone implants. This approach implanted breast lift (implanted mastopexy) and aims to give the breast both volume and a fuller upper pole appearance.

Technical differences in breast reduction and lift surgeries mostly depend on the choice of pedicle, which determines the blood supply and sensation of the nipple-areola complex. This technical detail is planned according to the anatomical structure of the patient, the amount of tissue to be removed and the surgical goals. The central pedicle technique, which we often prefer, is considered to be an advantageous method because it provides a rounder and fuller upper pole breast form, allows more effective correction of breast asymmetries and has a lower risk of re-sagging in the long term.

The surgical scars formed after these surgeries are mostly inverted T-shaped. Inverted T scar is formed by the combination of the vertical line extending downwards from the nipple around the nipple-areola and the horizontal line extending along the inframammary fold. In patients with more limited sagging, the length of the scars can be reduced or surgery can be planned without a horizontal scar.

Breast reduction and lift surgeries are usually performed under general anaesthesia. The average duration of surgery is between 2-4 hours. In most patients, discharge is planned after 1-3 days of hospitalisation. Patients can usually return to their daily lives within 7-10 days. In the postoperative period, the use of a special medical bra is recommended for about 4 weeks. The final breast form is formed within 6-12 months.
