Breast augmentation, Breast augmentation is a surgical aesthetic operation performed to increase breast volume, improve breast shape and achieve a more balanced, aesthetic appearance with body contours. Inadequate congenital breast volume, decrease in breast volume with weight loss and volume losses after pregnancy-breastfeeding are among the most common reasons for breast augmentation surgery.
The most common method in breast augmentation surgery is the use of silicone breast implants (prostheses). In some suitable patients, fat injection can be applied as a supportive method in addition to implants or to provide limited volume increase.
The shape (round or anatomical), surface characteristics, size and placement plan (submuscular, supramuscular or dual plan) of the implants are determined individually in line with the patient's existing breast tissue, body structure and aesthetic expectations. Although there are different surgical approaches, the procedure can be performed through an incision of approximately 3-4 cm in length, which is often hidden in the inframammary fold.
Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The duration of the operation is between 1-2 hours on average. In most patients, discharge is planned after one night hospitalisation. Patients can usually return to their daily lives within 5-7 days. In the postoperative period, the use of a special medical bra is recommended for about 4 weeks. The final breast form is formed within 3-6 months.
